Rules of Play

  1. Each game will be to 21 points or a maximum time limit of 15 minutes. The team must win by only 1 point.
  2. Teams score by either regular 2-point baskets or by 3-point shots taken from outside the 3-point arc.
  3. First possession will be determined by a coin toss.
  4. After a basket has been scored or a foul called, player must put the ball in play from the top of the key outside the 3-point arc. Players must check the ball with the defense. No “pass in” required.
  5. All held balls will be put into play behind the 3-point arc, with possession given alternately to each team.
  6. On defensive rebounds or steals, players must return the ball by dribble or pass to behind the 3-point arc before a basket may be attempted. Once across the arc, they do not have to pass the ball before shooting.
  7. Any player may convert an offensive rebound.
  8. After a basket, the team scored upon will put the ball in play.
  9. Fouls will be called by an official. A foul called in the act of shooting will result in two or three free throw attempts, depending on whether the foul occurred inside or outside the 3-point arc. Keep it clean!
  10. Each team will get 1 timeout per game. Officials may stop the game for injury or by their own discretion.
  11. Substitutions may be made after a basket or an out of bounds play.
  12. If the game is tied after 15 minutes, there will be a 2-minute overtime period. Possession will be determined by a coin toss. Ties at the end of any overtime period will result in successive one-minute periods until one team gains the lead at the end of each overtime period. A coin toss will determine possession to start each overtime period.
  13. Any grievances will be decided by the chairperson.
  14. Any physical alterations of foul language will result in ejection from the game and possibly the tournament at the discretion of the chairperson.
